Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) in Oklahoma City

Restore the youthfulness and sparkle in your eyes dampened by fatigue or dark circles. Dr. Ivan Wayne is a renowned blepharoplasty surgeon, also known as Eye Surgery in Oklahoma City.

Droopy eyelids can make you look older and impair vision. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a transformative procedure designed to rejuvenate the area around your eyes, giving a more rested and often youthful appearance. In Oklahoma City, W Facial Aesthetics stands at the forefront.

Blepharoplasty is often combined with a brow lift to correct the appearance of sagging eyebrows.

Whether you’re seeking a refreshed look or functional improvements, eyelid surgery in OKC might be the path to the changes you’re hoping to see in the mirror.

Lower Blepharoplasty (Lower Eyelid Lift)

The appearance of bags in the lower eyelids can be due to bulging fat or loss of fat in the surrounding cheek. Dark circles are often caused by allergies or dark pigment. A thorough evaluation is needed to determine which of these factors is causing the problem.

Transconjunctival Fat Removal

Eyelid puffiness caused primarily by excess fat may be corrected by a transconjunctival blepharoplasty. The incision in this case is made inside the lower eyelid and excess fat material is removed. When sutures are used to close this kind of incision, they are invisible to the eye, self-dissolving and leave no visible scar.

Transconjunctival Fat Repositioning

Fat repositioning is a procedure where orbital fat is used to fill in a depression where the lower eyelid and the cheek meet. During the transconjunctival option, the fat is removed from the back side of the lower eyelid. Most of the changes that occur in the lower eyelid are due to changes in the upper cheek, namely dropping of the cheek and malar fat pad. A lower eyelid procedure is often performed at the same time as a midface lift. This provides a more natural, refreshed look than eyelid surgery alone.

Who is a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

Considering eyelid surgery in OKC represents a significant step toward achieving the refreshed appearance and confidence you desire. Many have successfully achieved their desired results through this procedure. Before making your decision, it’s essential to determine whether it’s the right choice for you.

You might be a great candidate for eyelid surgery if you:

  • Experience noticeable eyelid drooping affecting appearance or vision
  • Are in good health, with no conditions impacting surgery or healing
  • Are a non-smoker or willing to quit permanently prior to surgery
  • Are looking for improvement for a tired or aged look due to eyelid appearance

Eyelid surgery might not be right for you if you:

  • Suffer from severe eye conditions that could worsen with surgery
  • Expect surgery to address broader life or psychological issues
  • Are currently pregnant or breastfeeding

Benefits of Blepharoplasty

When you schedule a cosmetic facial procedure at W Facial Aesthetics, you’re not just choosing a cosmetic enhancement—you’re embracing a procedure that can uplift both your appearance and your spirit. Here’s how:

  • Restored Field of Vision: If your upper eyelids have become a sight-inhibiting curtain to your eyes, eyelid lift surgery in OKC can enhance your peripheral vision significantly.
  • Refreshed Appearance: Imagine greeting the day without the extra baggage of drooping eyelids. This surgery smooths away the excess, giving your face a bright and youthful expression.
  • Reduced Eye Strain: Less skin weighing down your lids means less effort in keeping them up. Eyelid surgery can decrease daily eye fatigue post-surgery.
  • Customizable Results: Whether it’s a subtle lift or a more comprehensive change, the approach is tailored to your features.
  • Minimal Scarring: Expert hands at W Facial Aesthetics work to ensure that incisions are hidden within the natural structures of your eyelid region, making any traces of surgery hard to spot.
  • Quick Recovery Time: Compared to other facial surgeries, blepharoplasty typically has a swift recovery.
  • Complementary to Other Procedures: If you’re considering a full facial refresh, blepharoplasty plays well with other procedures, such as a brow lift or forehead lift, for a harmonious overall enhancement.

Preservation Recovery and Aftercare

Post-operative Care and Instructions

In the hours following your blepharoplasty, our team provides you with detailed care instructions to preserve the integrity of your surgery. You’ll go home with eye drops to keep your eyes lubricated and specific guidelines on how to gently clean your eyelids. You should keep your head elevated, even when sleeping, and use cool compresses to mitigate swelling. You should avoid any activities that may dry up your eyes, including excessive screen time. This could compromise your recovery.

Timeline for the Recovery Process

The timeline for recovery from eyelid lift surgery is a conversation we prioritize. Typically, we will remove the sutures when most of the swelling has subsided enough for you to see the emerging results. By the two-week mark, many patients feel ready to resume most of their regular activities.

We’re here to support you from your initial consultation through every follow-up. Our team is always on hand to answer questions about your specific aftercare plan, including when you can return to wearing contact lenses and makeup and how to protect your eyes from the sun and other elements as you heal.

Eyelid Surgery / Blepharoplasty FAQs

Blepharoplasty is a type of cosmetic surgery where your surgeon removes excess and unwanted skin from above and/or below your eyelids — it’s sometimes referred to as an eyelid surgery or eyelid lift surgery.

As people get older, the skin around their eyes starts to lose its elasticity, resulting in unwanted stretching and drooping of the eyelids. The goal of blepharoplasty surgery is to repair droopy eyelids by removing unwanted skin. Blepharoplasty surgery is a fairly in-depth and complicated procedure because of the many muscles and nerves near your eyes. Therefore, you’ll require general anesthesia and be put to sleep during the surgery.

To perform the surgery, your doctor will make tiny cuts in your upper and/or lower eyelids. They will then remove any extra fat, skin, and muscle that’s causing droopy eyelids and excess skin. Depending on your circumstances, your surgeon may also redistribute some of the material to other parts of the eye. When they’re finished, your surgeon will close up the incisions, and the end result is that you’ll look younger and better than ever.

Most people choose to have eyelid surgery to combat the aging process by removing excess, unwanted skin that’s causing them to have droopy or saggy eyelids and eye sockets.

Excessive skin around the eyes can make people look much older than they are or want to appear. Therefore, the main benefit of eyelid surgery is to look younger, less tired, and more attentive than before.

However, a few additional benefits of eyelid surgery are:

  • Tighter skin around your eyes
  • You’ll be able to see better because your eyelids aren’t impeding your vision
  • Better peripheral vision
  • You’ll feel more confident because of how alert and young you look
  • Eyelid surgery also smooths out the creases on your forehead

Blepharoplasty is a very versatile surgery with several options for both upper and lower eyelids.

You can choose to have the surgery to repair just your upper or lower eyelids, or you can opt to repair both sections at once. In most cases, it makes sense to do your upper and lower eyelids at the same time because it will offer a more complete result. While doing just your upper or lower eyelids will make you look younger, doing both at the same time will look twice as good.

Additionally, if you’re doing one section of your eyelids now, you’ll need to do the other section before long. By doing both at the same time, you’ll save time and money by only having to go in for one procedure, and you’ll have less recovery time. In fact, the recovery time will be very similar if you decide to do your upper and lower eyelids or just one section at a time.

Technically speaking, there’s no wrong time to have a blepharoplasty. Eyelid lift surgery can benefit anyone at any age.

On average, most people start to lose skin elasticity around their eyes in their early to mid-forties. Therefore, this is the age when most people start to consider eyelid surgery.

However, there are plenty of reasons why you might want a blepharoplasty much earlier in life. Whether it’s because of genetics, a medical condition, or premature aging, you can start to have droopy eyelids much earlier than 40. Therefore, if you can benefit from it, there’s no age too young or old to have blepharoplasty surgery.

If you have saggy eyelids or unwanted skin above or below your eyes, you’re most likely a good candidate for eyelid surgery.

Generally, this includes anyone with excess skin or fatty deposits above or below the eyes. These fatty deposits and extra skin are definite signs of aging that many people want to correct. Additionally, because of how much sagging and drooping of the eyelids these things cause, they can result in blocked or impaired vision.

While eyelid surgery in OKC can benefit everyone, there are certain people who may not be good candidates. This includes anyone with glaucoma, dry eye, diabetes, and certain other medical conditions. You should also maintain a healthy lifestyle with limited smoking and alcohol consumption, as these things can negate the positive effects of eyelid lift surgery.

During your initial consultation with your facial plastic surgeon, once they review your aesthetic goals and medical history, they will be able to tell you whether or not you make a good candidate for eyelid surgery.

Most of our patients who have recovered from eyelid surgery at our Oklahoma City experienced swelling, bruising, and discomfort.

On average, the swelling and bruising around your eyes should start to clear up in one to two weeks. You’ll likely feel some pain and tenderness around the eye for up to a week, so make sure you don’t rub or touch the area too much. Be sure to follow any instructions from the doctor or clinic staff and take any medications as directed.

Most people can leave the recovery room and go home within several hours after their blepharoplasty and be back to work within two weeks. For the first couple of days, you’ll likely experience blurred vision, double vision, pain, swelling, bruising, tenderness, puffiness, and sensitivity to light. It’s important to follow your doctors’ instructions and apply ice, cold compresses, eye drops, and other remedies to deal with the unwanted symptoms of blepharoplasty.

As with all forms of surgery, there are certain risks and complications associated with blepharoplasty.

Most of the risks involved are related to anesthesia, potential blood clots, and because of how close the surgery is to your eyes. Here are some of the most common risks and complications of blepharoplasty.

  • Infection
  • Blood clots
  • Damage to the eye
  • Impaired vision
  • Dry eyes
  • Inability to close your eyes immediately after the procedure
  • Skin discoloration
  • Temporary blindness or blurred vision

While there are certainly some risks to eyelid lift surgery, the benefits outweigh them significantly.

Eyelid surgery is a permanent procedure, and you’ll enjoy the results for a lifetime! However, it won’t stop the aging process.

Blepharoplasty is meant to repair the signs of aging around your eyelids. As a result, over time, it’s possible that you’ll experience sagging and drooping of the eyelids again. However, because of your eyelid surgery, the sagging and drooping will be much less noticeable than prior to your surgery. Additionally, the skin around your eyes should remain tight and in place for at least ten years or longer, depending on how old you were when you got your surgery.

While a bulk of the work for your blepharoplasty will take place in the operating room, there are certain things you can do to prepare for the procedure that will help ensure a successful outcome.

  • Stop smoking and drinking alcohol
  • Obtain a complete medical history, including medications that you’re allergic to.
  • Stop taking certain medications such as aspirin, blood thinners, and anti-inflammatory drugs
  • Have your surgeon or an optometrist perform an eye exam and visual test to check the status of your eyes and ensure they’re healthy enough for surgery
  • Make arrangements for someone to drive you to and from the procedure
  • Schedule a consultation with your surgeon and make sure they understand exactly what you want and what you expect from the outcome. It’s the job of your surgeon to tell you if your goals are realistic or not and to help you understand the risks and complications

While each of these things can help ensure a successful outcome, the best thing you can do is look for the surgeon who offers the best blepharoplasty in OKC.

When you get eyelid surgery in Oklahoma City, courtesy of W Aesthetics, you can enjoy a pain-free, comfortable procedure.

Dr. Wayne will administer local or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of your surgery. This will ensure that you won’t be able to feel anything during the operation.

Following your eyelid surgery, you’ll likely experience some pain, tenderness, and discomfort for up to 10 days. However, you’ll be given pain medications and a list of home remedies to help with the pain and discomfort.

Not only is it possible to combine your eyelid surgery with other procedures, but many times it’s recommended.

Eyelid surgery in OKC is a great way to look younger, healthier, more confident, and more alive. However, if you struggle with sagging skin, wrinkles, lines, and skin discoloration on other parts of your face, eyelid surgery may not be enough to have the desired effect.

In those circumstances, you can combine your blepharoplasty with a brow lift, facelift, lip lift, and other forms of facial plastic surgery. Dr. Wayne and his team specialize in all forms of neck and facial plastic surgery. From the base of your neck to the top of your head, we can improve every aspect of your face.
